Volvo XC60

Volvo is to show off a new compact SUV, the XC60 concept, at the Detroit motor show. It's set to rival the X3, forthcoming Audi Q5 and Merc GLK and is rumoured to share the same underpinnings as acclaimed Ford cousin the Land Rover Freelander.

Based on the success of the excellent XC90, the XC60's big sibling, this could be one of the most important new Volvo's in years. It'll certainly be the first to feature City Safety technology, which senses if a low-speed collision is imminent and applies the brakes.

Further technical details remain under-wraps for now, but we do know that the Detroit show car will be high-spec and feature an iPod-inspired all-white interior (which may not make the production model).
